“Dedications”

Ongoing Exhibition

 “Dedications”
Quilt Exhibit by Frances Garcia-Newsome
October 2011

We’ve all experienced the loss of someone either personally connected or connected within a kindred/spiritual sort of way (via shared beliefs, ideas or works) and this loss has been at a time which we’ve expressed as never being “the right time” because letting go their memory is not a reality we want to face/an option we want to even consider. Despite this we deal with their absence and move on, holding onto them within our hearts, within our souls, within our thoughts.
As a quilter I’ve transferred loss of significant people in my life onto my work which I proudly display in this exhibit that I’ve entitled “Dedications”. I can’t bring the dead back, but I can share something of who they were to me or how I perceived my interaction with them.
This said, I welcome you to share in how I honor those no longer living in body but who always continue to be alive in my soul, expressing who they were to me via the medium of fabric as well as the written word.

Reception: Tuesday October 11, 2011
     5:o0 PM- 7:o0 PM / Mezzanine.
