If you’ve opened TikTok recently, you may have noticed your #FYP (For You Page, for those off the app) filled with the same books or authors for the past few months. We all love a good Taylor Jenkins Reid novel, and far be it from me to snub A Little Life, but due to high demand a lot of the most popular #BookTok titles aren’t immediately available.

If you’re dying for a good read and don’t want to wait, or if you’ve read through the latest #BookTok obsessions and need something new, here are some suggestions for you.

(psst...did you know NYPL is on TikTok?)

two book covers side by side

Looking for something like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid?

Try City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Both novels feature strong, independent, iconic women looking back at their fabulous and glamorous careers.

two book covers

Looking for something like The Midnight Library by Matthew Haig?

Try The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells by Andrew Sean Greer.

Did someone say alternate timelines? Greer’s moving novel will show you that love transcends all time and space.

two book covers

Looking for something like The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab?

Try Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.

These novels feature main characters with unusual relationships to linear time (to put it mildly) whose lives bear witness to all the love and loss humanity offers.

two book covers

Looking for something like The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller?

Try House of Names by Colm Toibin.

Is there anything more dramatic than the Greek myths? House of Names is a bit more murder-y, but the tensions run high in both of these retellings.

two book covers

Looking for something like Circe by Madeline Miller?

Try A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes.

More Greek mythology, coming right up! While Miller sets her sights on a daughter of the Titans, Haynes sheds light on the women who were the heroines of the Trojan War.

two book covers

Looking for something like Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston?

Try Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall.

These two lighthearted British LGBTQIA romcoms featuring swoon-worthy chemistry are totally charming and will leave you chuffed.

two book covers

Looking for something like A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas?

Try Echo North by Joanna Ruth Meyer.

Echo North is a high fantasy propelled by a strong young woman, marked from birth by a white wolf, who is responsible for her family’s survival.

two book covers

Looking for something like A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara?

Try The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne.

A Little Life is a sweeping epic story of friendship that haunts readers; The Heart’s Invisible Furies is haunting but a little more on the humorous side.
