Artist Statement:
Welcome to "Urban Echoes," an online art exhibition by Reuben Aremis Mayes. This collection is a visual tapestry of New York City's eclectic spirit, woven together through hand-made collages. As a 35-year-old recording distribution owner with a passion for hip-hop and R&B, my art is deeply influenced by the vibrant cultural landscape that shapes the city.
This exhibition features 16 distinctive collages, each telling a unique story of New York. Through a blend of historical imagery and contemporary scenes, my work captures the essence of the city's past and present. The pieces range from depictions of iconic landmarks and famous personalities to everyday moments and cultural symbols, all set against colorful, hand-painted backgrounds.
