Set model for the Off Broadway production of In the Heights
Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes’s groundbreaking musical In the Heights, set in the upper Manhattan barrio of Washington Heights, explores ideas of Latinx identity, responsibility, legacy, destiny, and community through a rap- and salsa-infused score. Anna Louizos’s set model for the original Off Broadway production presents a dynamic urban streetscape with layered details informed by her visits with Miranda to the neighborhood that he calls home. The George Washington Bridge, which links New York City and New Jersey, extends above the action on stage as a visual metaphor of connection, mobility, and escape.
