This event will take place in person at Roosevelt Island. New to experienced artists are all welcome!

 

Create, converse, and collaborate with your community through the arts! Pick up a paintbrush, pen, or stencil and get started!

What does it mean to be civically engaged in your local community? Whether it be advocacy, activism, community organizing, or volunteering, join the Roosevelt Island community in an engaging arts workshop featuring local community artist and designer, Thom Heyer. Together, participants will create a work of art, highlighting new ideas and collaborations to celebrate the local community.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas about community engagement, discuss the issues that matter most to them, and showcase their creativity within the Roosevelt Island community. 

Workshop Dates and Community Showcase: 

Wednesdays on May 1, 8, and 15, 2024; 5:00PM- 6:30PM

Community Showcase: May 22, 2024 at 5:00PM- Join us for a Community Showcase to unveil the artwork created for, and by, the Roosevelt Island local community 

About the Artist: 

Thom Heyer is a visual artist and a designer in theatre, film and television.  He feels fortunate to have made his living in The Arts for the past 36 years in NYC.  Since moving to Roosevelt Island six years ago, he has been collaborating on a number of community engagement projects and hopes to continue to do so.  Thom, his husband Stephen and their two cats are happy to call Roosevelt Island home.  Please visit his website at  www.thomheyer.com or check out his film and television work through www.imdb.com .
